Palembang – The Provincial Government of South Sumatra once again organized a low-cost market operation as a concrete step to control regional inflation while easing the burden on the community. The event, held at Terminal Sako Perumnas, Palembang, on Thursday (September 18, 2025), was officially opened by the Vice Governor of South Sumatra, H. Cik Ujang.
This low-cost market provided a variety of essential commodities at subsidized prices, including SPHP rice, cooking oil, granulated sugar, and chicken eggs. In addition, the public could purchase curly red chili at a special discounted price. The subsidy for cooking oil and curly red chili was supported by Bank Sumsel Babel through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) program.
The commodities sold at this event were priced lower than the regular market rates. SPHP rice was offered at Rp57,000 per 5 kilograms, cooking oil at Rp12,000 per liter, granulated sugar at Rp13,500 per kilogram, and chicken eggs at Rp22,000 per kilogram. A discount of Rp10,000 per kilogram was also applied to curly red chili and several other items depending on supply availability.
Interim President Director of Bank Sumsel Babel, Festero Mohamad Papeko, emphasized that BSB’s support in this market operation reflects the real role of regional banks in safeguarding economic stability for the community. “As a strategic partner of the provincial government, Bank Sumsel Babel is committed not only to serving as a financial intermediary institution, but also to contributing directly to food security and the welfare of South Sumatra’s people. Through this CSR subsidy program, we want to ensure that the community has access to more affordable prices,” he said.
Following today’s event, the low-cost market operation will continue at several other locations, including the yard of the UPTD Office for Terminal, River, and Sea Transportation Management (September 23, 2025), as well as the yard of the Provincial Office of Food Security and Livestock (September 24, 2025).
Through this series of activities, the South Sumatra Provincial Government, together with Bank Sumsel Babel, remains optimistic about helping the community cope with rising prices of basic needs while strengthening synergy in maintaining regional food security.
